A REVIEW OF THE SHOW:
http://www.caladan.art.pl/koncerty_sc.php?id=91
Kindly translated by our very own Marcin Piwnik, in Wroclaw, Poland.

"IQ is a legend. They are in the businesss for some 25 years and in the
eighties acclaimed as the only band to dethrone Marillion ("The Wake"
period). But the revered fans in Poland had to wait for so long to see them
performing onstage. How revered? All you had to do was just to look at the faces, the excitement (greets for those two from the first row - seemed to me they lived every single note!).

It all false started. Nicholls didn't notice the unplugged mic and was
messing round for short time. Quick help from the technician and they started
again. First they played something new, from the new, then unrelased yet, album
(one could actually buy it at the band's shop, but the price was a
killer one). My first thoughts - dark, heavy, not easy but really impressive stuff. But in my opinion, comparing the new and old ("The Wake" and "Ever'
especially) stuff - the old seems to be more bright, more impressive... But my final judgement will be no sooner than I listen to the new album - it contains a long piece (don't know the title yet...), which can confuse a lot of fans.
Especially live version was one of the best moments of the whole performance. Apart from this I was most impressed by "Outer Limits", "Failsafe", "Leap of faith" and especially "Headlong". During the last one I was also the one who lived every single note of the song. It was beautiful. By the way - one of the
fans managed to sing along with Peter (who came to him and just gave him the
mic!). Maybe not perfect, but with a feeling. Unfortunatelly they didn't play
my IQ all time favourite "Dans le parc du Chateau Noir", with that great solo
from Mike Holmes. I like this guitarist a lot. He is not only gifted, but
skilled enough not just to play fast-as-lightning solos, but concentrate
mostly on the moods. And he's one of the best of that genre. And so the concert
was almost over. Two more encores (including "The Wake"). During the first encore the audience was amused to watch the old photos of the band (from the period they were young and beautiful ;) showed on the big screens back of the scene. And that's it. It's a pity they ignored "Nomzamo" but you can't always get what you want. But this monday evening will stay in my memory forever.

NOTES ON THIS RECORDING:

This excellent audience recording of the Dark Mattour in Bydgoszcz,
Poland, the band's first and only show in Poland to date. It contains an excellent performance and very good sound. It is flawless but for the exclusion of the final encore, The Wake, that never made it on to any recording to surface so far.

Again, sent to me by Hans in Norway, so that I get it out to
Collected Underground.
