Peter writes : "Way back in the early days of IQ, when hardly anyone knew about us, we would play live anywhere we could, initially in the London area but increasingly up and down the length of the UK. At the time, there were often more of us on stage than there were people in the audience, but we had to start somewhere.
We'd inherited 'Dans Le Parc Du Chateau Noir' and 'It All Stops Here' from the days of The Lens but now we were writing the first proper IQ tracks: Mike and Martin had penned 'Intelligence Quotient', 'Fascination' was the first IQ song I was involved in writing and by the time of this gig, at the Ad Lib Club in London on 24.1.83, we already had a pretty much finished version of 'The Enemy Smacks' (apart from the end section work-in-progress vocals), nine months ahead of its eventual release on 'Tales From The Lush Attic'.
This recording is a good representation of those far-off formative months. It isn't a particularly significant performance, or an especially good one (some of it is hugely cringeworthy, listening back now), but it's a snapshot of how we were at the time, five very different people thrown together in the same band, learning how to be IQ.
Recorded on my trusty little Philips mono cassette recorder, and transferred to CD direct from the master tape, this gig hasn't seen the light of day for more than 25 years. Here it finally is and I hope you enjoy it. Don't judge us too harshly - we were very young and still learning our craft."

Thanks of course to Peter for this very rare and very welcome addition to the CU library - we are of course grateful for Peter's ongoing support for CU and this donation is very very generous. Thanks PN!
